Author and Author and Author

I'm trying to fix some issues with author names and info in Calibre.

1. I can sometimes mistake an LN, LN combination for LN, FN, or LN, FN for LN, LN.

2. I try to keep authors names as either N, or FN LN, or PN N CN, depending, which helps avoid this issue. But some keep turning up as LN, FN.

3. And when there are multiple authors I'd like either Author and Author and Author, or Author & Author & Author, which also helps avoid this issue.

4. Some imports have LN, FN, LN, FN, & LN, FN, which can be a headache.

5. If I use the batch metadata editor, and type FN LN and FN LN and FN LN, the resulting metadata is FN LN & FN LN & FN LN.

6. If I use the "manage authors" option under the tag mapper, that can't read "&", and it seems to split names including "&" as part of a pen name or group name.

So what can I do about author names?
