Since I use Gmail, I have set up filters that apply labels to all the incoming mailing list stuff. Then if the subject doesn't indicate a freebie, it just gets marked read and archived without my opening the message. This has really helped me manage the newsletter barrage. I've actually found it easier to go through and select/archive stuff from Gmail on my Android phone, too. I archive a good 30-40 unread newsletters every day.
Some companies are worse about newsletters than others. Bath & Body Works sends me at least one e-mail
every single day. They have sales regularly, send coupons regularly and I do want to know about them, but sheeze, that's kind of excessive.
