My thoughts, too. Amazon seem to be telling me they don't want my ebook money. If I can't find a way to archive the book in an open format, I don't want it at all. Thank goodness for my huge TBR stockpile!
I've never owned or wanted a Kindle and I'm certainly not going to buy someone else's ancient cast-off Kindle as a leaky life-raft option just for the "privilege" of being allowed to shop in the Kindle store for an extra few weeks/months/years. If they soon won't want my money I might as well stop giving it to them as of right now.
And no, I don't expect them to lose any sleep over this, far too many other customers who don't care about archiving or being walled in.
