I just tried using Manage Your Kindle to download a book destined for my Paperwhite 1st generation, which doesn't support the new enhanced fonts, etc. It worked just fine but when I put it in Calibre, all set up with Apprentice Alf, it said the book had DRM and it couldn't read or convert it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I do still have K4PC v1.17.1 so it's not an immediate problem but I do want to be prepared. I do have automatic updates unchecked.
Calibre normally does my conversions just fine so it's not Calibre.
I'm guessing that the DRM is keyed on this book to the device and not to K4PC, and that K4PC normally does the actual decryption. But it can't decrypt this book keyed to the device. I'm doing a lot of guessing here but it seems sensible.
If that's true then downloading for USB transfer isn't going to work so what is going on here? I have to assume you guys have actually tried this and aren't just theorizing. I've been around too long to think that. What am I missing?
