Nope, there's only one size for that backpack. The only thing I can think about is that the 17 inch laptop wasn't put in the laptop compartment but in the general, big compartment.

The webshop asked Fjallraven (which I already did myself, as stated in the email) and were told it probably wouldn't fit (like they told me), and they didn't measure it themselves, as I asked them to do.

Yes, Fjallraven has backpacks which fit up to 17 inch laptops, but they are about €100 more expensive than the Foldsack No. 1. And I thought €130 was a very expensive backpack, I'm not going to pay over €200 for a backpack I don't use very often. Plus the whole point was getting a smaller backpack not an even bigger one.

Back to trawling webshops it is.
