If you had out-right failures, there was probably a network or site problem. Or you've been downloading 'too many too fast' and have been throttled by ffnet (FAQ).

The five examples all succeed for me.

These two correctly didn't download covers, because they don't have their own covers, only the author image.

defaults.ini contains:

[www.fanfiction.net]
## April 2015, ffnet changed their story and user pictures urls to be
## the same.  Now the only way to know if the story image is really
## the author image is to go get the author image and check.
skip_author_cover:true

You may set skip_author_cover:false under [www.fanfiction.net] in personal.ini if you'd like to use author image covers.
