The next and previous page buttons/the Page up/page dn keys all turn the page, i.e. the number of columns visible on the page. They do not scroll a single column at a time. The mouse wheel, up/down keys on the other hand scroll a single column. The behavior of both the wheel and tapping is configurable in the Preferences->Page Flip section of the viewer preferences.
