If I have to narrow it down to just one, I think I'll choose the series option
and go for the True North series by Sarina Bowen (Bittersweet, Steadfast and Keepsake). Consistently excellent, angsty, but not unbearably so, and really great characters. I truly don't think she is capable of writing a bad book.
