Hard drive manufacturers just add a little *GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes to their literature. They don't care about Mebi, etc. either.
Personally, I like them. Especially when you're talking about memory sizes (where they often apply) and transmission rates (where they should never be used).
Gigabit Ethernet really is 1,000,000,000 bits per second.
But I also accept that no-one uses them.
