If your plan is to publish a tool to generate an image from files that are obtainable from Kobo or the device, you are probably OK. But, if your plan is to host an image file publicly, you will need to be careful. And as I said, I can't see the point. Apart from doing it as a learning experience.

OK, I have mostly given up by now, and it was a good learning experience, and when I have a chance, I will put some of the things I figured out on my page. Thanks for your help so far. I have learned a lot about how the Kobos have worked.
