Your PW3 has twice the ram of earlier models, but still only 512mb (total).

You might try setting up and enabling a swap file.
put it on /var/local not on /mnt/us/ the /mnt/us sub-directory tree is not always available to the kernel (such as when it is exported over USB) but the user's space on /var/local is always there.
Note: You don't need much of a swap file, so leave plenty of free space on /var/local for the firmware to use.
