I haven't shopped there in a while, but they were my main store for a while back in 2010/2011-ish.

Their buy-10-get-1 free used to be a pretty good deal. It was a usable deal even after Agency pricing kicked in up until HarperCollins bought out Harlequin and then nothing but indies were eligible for the free book.

The 10¢ on the dollar is apparently a settlement deal for authors to get their rights back on the stuff ARe actually publishes, not books they sell from other publishers. But it is a crappy thing to do to authors.

ETA: Looks like it may be all books sold the entire 4th quarter. And they will get nothing for sales from today through the 31st. But others are saying it's only for the ARe collections and that authors have to waive royalties to get their rights back. Either way, that is SO wrong.

It's sad that we are only going to left with Amazon, Google, and Kobo. I don't buy Kindle books from Amazon because I like ePub and don't like the work it takes to convert as they format their books kind of wonky a lot of the time. There are a lot of authors publishing their backlists Amazon only, but unless it's a book I want to reread immediately, I don't like to support the exlusive deals like that.

I know there's also B&N but I refuse to buy from them anymore since you can't download the books.
