the extended driver from your plugin(?) or the Kobo Utilities plugin into Calibre(?) . That's the point I don't understand.

There are three different things involved here. All are plugin, but two are normally referred to as drivers. One is included in calibre, the other two are added by the user.
The first is the "KoboTouch driver". This is plugin built into calibre. It supplies most of the function for the communication between calibre and the Kobo devices. It is used whenever you connect a Kobo device, send books to the device or remove books using calibre.
Second is the "KoboTouchExtended driver". This is a user installed plugin that extends the function of the KoboTouch driver. It's main function is to convert books to kepubs while they are sent to a Kobo device. If you don't want to do this, you probably don't need to install this. If this is installed and enabled, then it is used instead of the KoboTouch driver.
The third thing is the "Kobo Utilities plugin". This is a user installed plugin that adds lots of ways to interact with the Kobo devices but is not involved in sending books to the devices. Most of the functions of the plugin are started from menu items, but there are a few items that can be started automatically when the device connects.
All of these are working with all Kobo e-ink ereaders and all released versions of the Kobo firmware. If you are having problems, then I need to know where it is so that I can look at it. So, I need to know what you were doing, what went wrong and, if there was one, the full error message.

Do you mean that's the last Kobo firmware version which is not available for Kobo glo ?
I'm not sure to know how I could do it manually. With your own tool ?

Firmware version 4.2.8110 has only been release for the Aura ONE and Aura Edition 2. But, it is reasonably safe to install on the other devices. There is a thread in the Kobo forum discussing the firmware version and another with links and instructions for installing.
