Get Windows 10. Then you won't have to worry about support expiring like it will with Windows 7. You go Windows 7, you'll only end up with Windows 10 once support is ending for Windows 7. It's better to cut out a step and go Windows 10. There's no need to go to Windows 8 instead of WIndows10.
What Amazon usually does is send you the another Kindle and then you send back the defective Kindle.
