I'd also add that 5.0+ Android requires quite a lot more processing power for the same basic UI functionality, and still has no support for e-ink screens out of the box.
When we get a "high contrast" mode that pretty much just works with e-ink, then maybe it will be worth the upgrade. Until then? Not really. And you're probably off with a barebones Linux distro running an open source e-book reader app.
