The youngsters on the list may not recognize the coin. It is a buffalo (head?) nickel (yeah, the front has a native American, but I think on the back side was an American buffalo). They probably went out of circulation in the 1950's. Mercury dimes ended circulation about the same time.
True story: I found several buffalo nickels and mercury dimes on the school playground when I was in the first half of third grade (even by that time they were valuable). I dutifully took them to the office to see if anyone claimed them. I was supposed to go back after a certain amount of time and claim them if no one else had. It turned out that we moved out-of-state in the middle of third grade, and I didn't have an opportunity to claim them, didn't get around to it, whatever. It's annoyed me ever since. ha
