From what I could tell, both the basic Kindle and the 350 have a screen resolution of 800X600, so I don't think you should see a huge difference in screen quality.
I do wonder though if you wouldn't be better off getting a cheap original model Aura. The resolution will be higher and the front light can be turned completely off. You'd have expandable storage and an overall nicer device. Plus, it would also cost less than the Kindle, unless you get a really good deal.
On the other hand, you'd be living without a warranty. Not a concern for me, but a concern for some.
