I am sure that those pictures show a hardware problem. They aren't typical for a damaged substrate, but the crack could be right at an edge. It could be the graphics controller, which wouldn't be fixable. I'd check the cable connection or try the image, but I wouldn't hold out much hope.

I think it's time for a new device. Any of the current Kobo devices is a vast improvement over the Touch.
