Try a lightweight registry cleaner, I favour Piriform's CCleaner, I've been using for at least a decade and it has never cause me any grief, whereas some of the others can create more problems than they cure.
If that doesn't fix it you could try running the System File Checker
You could also try installing the Portable version.

I usually avoid the use of tools for the registry maintenance, nevertheless this time I tried CCleaner and it worked.
