Question Looking for a specific use

Hello,

I am new to this forum and wanted to start off by asking for some help in getting some advice for a device that could work for my needs. I'm an IT specialist and I have always preferred writing out diagrams and notes instead of typing.

I have tried/owned several devices over the years to attempt to fit my particular needs: from Tablet PC's to Samsung notes & Boogie boards. I'm sick of the research and all the time wasted trying one device after another. I need a device that I can write with and keep my digital notes on, while also having all my documents (mostly .PDF) in one place.

I like the simplicity of something like Sharp's Electronic Memo Pad, but I also want the ability to read and edit a document. Think digital paper but not Sony $700+ Digital Paper!

Battery life needs to be more than a week. I'm used to the Nokia generation of phones and go for weeks without a recharge. Running to a charger after 5 hours of use is not going to cut it.

I don't care if it's color as long as it can switch to greyscale mode for night. It needs to be easy on the eyes, but also have a decent panel. I do not care for WiFi or connecting to any stores to grab books from. Think of this device as a mechanics notebook... it will get used in the field and thrown around.

Writing wise I would prefer something that has no batteries in the pen like Wacom. Also, just like Wacom, it would be nice to have it be pressure sensitive with palm-rejection.

It needs to have the ability to transfer my documents back and forth from my computers through USB, or SDCARD.

I would like something no larger than an average 8" memo pad. I would not mind a bit bigger, but lugging around anything above 10" is not going to work with my Laptop bag.

I don't want to talk about unreleased, crowfunded, pre-order-maybe-we-will-ship-in-the-distant-future devices!

The OS would need to be something simple and not loaded with a bunch of bloat "features". I'm a Linux guy and like to have all my stuff hackable/customizable.

My budget can go as high as $400 for something that works very well. Used is great as well as being able to actually buy it.

If I need to take one apart and hack another to build it then so be it.

I would like any information from experienced users on this forum to give me their advice.

Please !

Thanks!
