I do need to read the original some day.
I first read "The Stars My Destination" when it was serialized in Galaxy Magazine when I was a teen. I read a lot of SF back then and this quickly became a favorite. Except for re-reading a few favorites i quit reading SF not long after Star Wars made it popular and changed it's character. This is one of about half dozen novels I re-read every few years.

I've seen the comic version. I read a little of it and it was fun but I quickly stopped reading it and went back and read the novel again. The comic was fun but we're talking about what is surely the strangest and maybe even the greatest adventure story ever written and I wanted the real thing.

I've also heard it in a BBC Radio 4 audiodrama. It was nicely done but just not the same.

Bester wrote 2 novels of this type: "The Demolished Man" and "The Stars My Destination". Each is equally good. They're totally unalike and they're both unlike anything else I've ever read. They're equally outrageous. Whichever I've read most recently is easily the best.

Don't keep putting it off. This is a fast and very fun read. You'll be glad you started by the second page.
