I have a T1 and I moved to an H2O. After using a device with a Carta screen, I would not go with one that's a pearl screen. So that would leave out the Glo. If you can get the Glo HD, go for it. If not, go for the Aura Edition 2. One thing you will be able to do is you'll be able to use your ePub eBooks as is without the need to convert.
As to speed, the Kobo is not too slow at page turning. In fact, you will find a Glo HD or Aura E2 would be noticeably faster than the T1. Opening a book with a high-resolution cover on a T1 is dreadfully slow. I can turn the page and by the time I'm ready to read, the page is turned.
One thing you get on a Kobo vs a Kindle is that you get better typesetting as you don't need a special format to get such. You get ligatures, kerning, variable spaces, & hyphenation. To get something like that with a Kindle, you need KFX.
Oh and one other thing you get with a Kobo, you get collection management with Calibre. Calibre can create the collections for you and sort the books in the collections. You also get many more font size choices, more built-in fonts and you can use your own side loaded fonts as well.
