I also think you can be happy with any of these devices. I prefer Kindles but that's because they're what I began with and I have a large library on Amazon. I get the 3G Kindles so I always have easy access to whatever I choose to read.
I have a Kobo Aura and I have had a Kobo Glo in the past. Both are very good. The Glo has an excellent screen. The Aura isn't as good but it's still just fine. I'm reading my current book on it. That's the original Aura, not the ones you've mentioned, which have better screens.
The dictionary on the Kindle is definitely better but the dictionary on the Kobo isn't bad at all. I do sometimes go to the Kindle if it's a pretty obscure word and it's handy when I'm reading on my Kobo, but that's not the common situation.
Kobo has more font adjustments but for myself Kindle has enough and I really don't care about that. And sometimes the Kobo fine tuning doesn't work on some sideloaded books. I've never been sure why. It usually works fine.
I've never had lockups or freezes on any of my readers. That's just not something you need to worry about unless you get a bad one. My neighbors and I have had a lot of Kindles and Kobos and they all hold up and they're all reliable.
None of the ones you've mentioned are going to be poor choices. They're all excellent.
