It probably depends on how you use the light on your ereader. If you are someone who tends not to have the light set too brightly and don't fiddle with the levels that often, you will use up less battery power than someone who tends to have the light level set quite high. The auto light sensor will also push up the light level when in bright conditions, perhaps you don't bother doing that yourself?
