Thank you very much, the epub to epub conversion did help.
And a short investigation at fbreader's web site revealed they don't support the epub3 standard fully. Which leaves an additional question:
How do I know if an epub file is v2 or v3? I couldn't find anything in Calibre and neither in FBReader.
