I tether my Ipad air2 to my Iphone 5s while I am out from the house as I do not trust or use open hot spots. I find that he speed on my Ipad is just about the same as the speed of my phone. Yes I believe there is a little more battery drain but it is not bad. I have never had my phone of Ipad battery go down that low. I would say if I had a large screen Iphone I more than likely would be just using my Iphone and only tether when it need a larger screen. But to be honest I do not like the large Iphone and I much prefer my 4 inch screen for what I do.
