My guess is that you are facing the problem described in this FAQ:
[Android] I have added a lot of books and now adding books takes forever. What do I do?.
The changes from V4 to V5 are described in
the Change Log.
If you have a device running V4 then you can install that APK on your tablet. Get one of the tools (there are many) that can extract the V4 APK, transfer that file to the tablet, then install it. I should note that V4 is no longer supported. V4 also doesn't have the cloud connection or many bug fixes.
