I have a kobo h20 and I have also recently turned off sleep cover.
It was both turning off while I was holding it (when the cover became aligned) and turning on while the cover was closed because it was loose.
Since turning it off, the autosleep has done a better job of keeping the battery than the sleep cover. I may eventually switch to a third party sleep cover. However, the primary function of the cover for me is to protect against drops, and it has done that well.
