There are a number or problems with reading on a tablet but most of them only affect some people and not others. There's the question of size and weight. I find it uncomfortable to hold a tablet up to my eyes for reading for extended periods. It's too big and heavy. A lot of people prefer the larger size. I don't.
There's reading on an LCD and eyestrain. A lot of people aren't bothered by this at all and others are. I find a 15 or 20 minute reading session on an LCD is just fine. Any longer and my eyes begin to water. Much longer and I'm done reading for at least a few hours. I always keep my current book on my phone and for short sessions I love it. I just have to keep the sessions short.
Then there's the issue of distractions. That's a problem on my phone too but when I'm reading I tend to ignore most of them. I'll answer a phone call but I don't get many. Any other notification I'll just ignore if I'm really into the book. It'll be there for me when I'm ready. So for me this is a minor issue. A lot of people hate it.
I think what device we use is a very personal thing and any advice you're given about it has a pretty good chance of not really fitting you. The thing to do is experiment. It's the only way to find out.
