This sounds a little strange to me? Isn't there a coating over all the external surfaces, seams, connections, ...to prevent water from getting inside to the electronics. For example, there is a coating over the USB port / connector.
Allowing water to get inside the case sounds like a recipe for trouble, to me.
I really don't know, but it sounds very strange.
