Katie, not intending to be pushy. Of course everyone should do what they want. But Kobo owners know that as wonderful as the readers are, they do have a habit of crashing and losing info. As far as I know, dragging and dropping books and ejecting the reader using Windows Explorer is riskier than doing the same via Calibre (and I could be wrong there. Others with more info can correct me). Likely it will never happen to you. But take it as the friendly warning it is intended as.
As to my PC crashing and me losing my library, I actually keep Calibre and my books on an external hard drive and I regularly sych it to a secondary external hard drive. I also back the whole thing up to Google Drive, so I feel my data is as safe as I can humanly make it.
For all that, my information is on my Kobo just like yours is, so if your nightmare scenario were to happen to both of us, how would I be any worse off than you are?
