Cables that are not properly wired can
set your computer on fire, if they screw it up badly enough. USB type C cables can have a lot of power flowing through them, and if they, or the device at the far end, is not actually remotely ready to deal with it, it can be smoke time. The 100W charging capabilities now here with USB 3.1+ makes it even more important to get this stuff right (but vendors won't).
