It's pretty clear you got a lemon, and they should have offered you a new replacement, not refurb.
But there wouldn't be so many of us using the devices if they were all like that. I'm moving to straight Android now, to get the latest real Android OS, not because of any issues with the hardware. I think if you got an exchange, the new tablet would perform as designed and be great for entertaining the kids.
