I don't see much connection between innovative and quality. An excellent example from the portable media player days was Archos, which was possibly the most innovative company of them all. And they made the most unreliable devices. I usually had to return 2 or 3 to get a good one. Once I got that good one they held up just fine. In fact I still have one that works just fine as long as I keep it plugged in and it's probably close to 10 years old.
