I don't listen to Audible books, but I have issues with Kindle books mucking up the sync between devices. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen far too often. I find that I have to close the book or manually hit Sync before switching devices. If I just turn the device off with the book open, it often hasn't synced lately. Perhaps something similar is going on with the Dots. Maybe try closing the Audible book on the Dot before switching to another Dot and see if that forces a sync.
