In my opinion, it is not great for reading on. If you can afford it, get the 8" Fire HD for $59, or better yet, the Fire HD 6". That one is really great for reading on. I've had mine for 2 years now (my 2 young daughters each have one, also, as well as my mother) and we use them every day. $70 for the 8 gb, $90 for the 16 gb.

Of course there are non-Fire tablets too, like the ipad mini, that are good for reading on.
