The problem is that the latest SD recovery firmware was created for 1.0.0.4. The t1 was out of favor and many people have moved on since before Sony dropped their bookstore and customers were moved to Kobo.

From what I read, the SD recovery only works if both the SD Recovery and the T1 have the same firmware. So from what I can find, saving for a new Reader is your only option.
