Now the question: Is there a way to make it so that library changes to #1 (i.e. book metadata or books added to a series saved to #2) automatically reflect in the #2 library? Or do I have manually re-save the books from #1 to #2?

I could not find the "copy to library" feature. The closest thing I found was a "save books to disk" feature. Per chance, is this what you were referring to?
Copy to Library only appear IF you have told Calibre about 2 or more Libraries (also appears on Switch Menu).
Then it becomes a right-click option
