By case I assume you mean cover?

Both a sleeve and a flip open type of cover are a type of case.
FWIW I have used sleeve style cases since I got my Kindle Touch in 2011 and both that and my Kobo Aura HD are perfectly fine after many hundreds of books read.
I use
sleeves that were originally designed for the first Fire tablet that I got super cheap on a sale and they've worked good for a few different readers and a couple 7" tablets. Nothing quite as nice as the sleeve the OP mentions, but they work okay.
