It's still there for me on Amazon UK. Go to "Manage Your Content and Devices", click the "..." button alongside the item, and one of the items in the pop-up that appears is "Clear furthest page read". Do you not see this?

EDIT: I see that this only appears for books, not personal docs. Are you sure it ever was there for docs?
