That's very surprising. Assuming your 2.4 and 5 APs are delivering connections to the same subnet, as mine are, and as would be expected in a home network, I can't imagine what difference that would make in an infrastructure mode setup. Ad hoc or wifi-direct, it might make sense, but not when both devices are connected through a router.
