Are the blogs dying from lack of interest or do the bloggers allow comments and the comments get out of hand?
I'll check out a quilting blog at times - a lot do allow comments. If the blogger has a new baby, eventually all the comments revolve around the baby whether or not the blogger wants it to. The comments can also turn to "mommy shaming" if the blogger would rather keep baby and blog separate. Blogger then gives up and no longer posts.
Isn't only women - I remember some rather vituperative comments about telescopes, too. Those commenters were male.
