If an organization is releasing a new electronic device today, using Marshmallow (v6) is barely acceptable, and anything older is completely unacceptable. If anything, new devices should be designed for v8, rather than Nougat (v7).

Onyx has always releasing 4.04 Ice Cream Sandwich, and 4.2 works much better on eink for me. And it's been good enough for me - you're not going to be running the same kinds of apps on eink.
