If I leave it without checking this (peeping through the usb-hole to see if the light is out), the Kobo will not turn off at all and drain itself quickly (even if preset to turn off after 5 minutes inactivity).
Is this a bug other users also experience? And if so, is there a cure?

Yes, I am having the same problem with the official sleep cover. I have to peer between the cover and the reader to make sure the light has turned off, and it usually doesn't work the first time. It's extremely annoying. I can't believe they didn't test this. I have a Samsung tablet with a sleep cover that works perfectly, so I never considered there would be a problem with the Aura One's sleep cover. Anyway, I have not yet discovered a solution. I have tried different methods of closing the cover, not touching the cover, etc. but the trick to making the sleep cover put the device to sleep reliably escapes me.
