I read the book when I was a child or young teen. It really is a fascinating story. Hollywood couldn't make up something as interesting as this or thousands of other events that transpired in WWII.

For those of you, like me, who have read (or listened to) the story, I would like to direct your attention to this statement in the blurb:
Drawing on new information from the American rescuers and recently released archives in both Japan and the U.S., PT-109 recounts this event in breathtaking detail and explores the incident's remarkable aftermath on JFK's life and legend. William Doyle reveals that, while the incident transformed JFK into a "war hero" and helped propel him to the U.S. Senate and the White House, the wounds he suffered during that harrowing week continued to haunt him, physically and psychologically.

I didn't realize that there was a new edition out with the "new information" that the paragraph discusses. It sounds like the original author, William Doyle (I'm assuming--I didn't go back and check--that he was the original author) is the one who did the research and revision of the original work. Peeps who have read or listened to the original edition might be interested in the "new information" that has been uncovered. One thing that it seems like I remember is that the Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer Amigiri, which rammed, and cut into, PT-109 has been found (but I might be mistaken about that); maybe that's one of the things brought out (the destroyer Amigiri hit a mine and sank sometime later in the war).
