dshoover - do you mean an icon to update/download calibre itself, if so then I've never seen it.
When there's a new release available calibre pops a dialogue box like this:-
If you don't update, then you'll see this in the status line:-
If you click on the blue release number (e.g. 2.71) the dialogue will pop.
