@graycyn: I would definitely uninstall the old version first. Even though you could technically have two versions on the same machine, they would share the same preferences. It's possible that a version that old might store its prefs somewhere else--I just don't know. I'm not even certain the old preferences would be compatible with the newer version. I'd be tempted to delete the old preferences and start from scratch, myself.

But for now, I say just uninstall the old version and install the new. If there's issues, we can deal with them then.
