@thordk: It is difficult to say from a photo: so much depends on the camera, the ambient light and the kobo light. Looking at mine with bare eyes, my shadows are fainter (but it is very sunny in Paris today). Do the shadows between the light cones look as strong to your bare eyes as on the photo? Was the light at 100% on the device?
Anyway, all screens are different and some have much more horrible defects. If your cones don't bother you when reading and the rest of the screen is good, it might be prudent to hold on to your One.
