Only Kobo know the answer to that. What I do know is that in firmware 4.1.7729 (only released for 2016 models so far), the part (nickel file) which handles a lot of the GUI layout has thousands of lines of code which test for specific Kobo model before deciding what value to use for various widgets measured in pixels, e.g. size of boxes, fonts, thumbnails etc.
The models referenced range from codename "Trilogy" through to "Daylight" including all codenames in between ("Pika", "Phoenix", "Dragon", "Alyssum"). I think "Trilogy" is the original Kobo Touch (someone will correct me if I'm wrong). "Daylight" is the AuraONE.
There's no guarantee what this means for the future but there is no sign in the latest firmware that older models are being excluded.
