Hi, FWIW I just downloaded it to .mobi and all worked as it usually does, on my ver 2.70.

So although I can't help you figure out what the prob is with your d/l. Maybe someone else can. But for the meantime, at least you can rule out any concern that it does still download to mobi, and without any issues for at least one other person. The current issue still opens in Calibre and my pwhite without any issues at all.
